Amalgam

Amalgam fillings are more commonly known as ‘the silver filling’ because of its silver appearance.

Dental amalgam is a mixture of mercury, silver, tin and copper. These metals mixed together provide a strong, hard and durable filling.

Amalgam fillings have been around for over 150 years.

Amalgam fillings are provided on the NHS for all posterior teeth.

If a white composite filling is preferred by the patient and the dentist is able to place a composite filling it can be done on a private basis.
